Visit by Mekelle President to ISTVS

The president of Mekelle University Prof. Kindeya Gebrehiwot and vice president Associate Prof. Sied Muhumed Jibril visited ISTVS on the 14th of May 2018. ISTVS has a close working relationship with Mekelle University. In 2014 an upgrade programme was launched by Mekelle University after analyzing the ISTVS Animal Health curriculum. The curriculum was found to be very comprehensive requiring only a little polishing on a few course units. The programme provides an opportunity for ISTVS diploma graduates to upgrade to a degree upon successful completion of 6 intensive semesters. So far a total of 27 students have graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree while 13 other students are currently enrolled on the programme.

The team was briefed on the history of ISTVS by the dean of studies Dr. Abdullahi Sheikh.

A tour of the school to acquaint the team with the teaching facilities and other amenities that the school offers the students. Discussions were then held on future collaboration between the 3 institutions. During the discussions, it was noted that ISTVS graduates are well trained and are highly regarded on the local job market.

The team was thanked for taking time off their busy schedule to visit ISTVS.
