Mentorship of Future Agriculturalists and Environmentalist at IGAD Sheikh Technical Veterinary School (ISTVS) in Somaliland by University of Nairobi, March 2019
The University of Nairobi in partnership with World Vision Somalia and IGAD Sheikh Technical University of Veterinary School (ISTVS) under the collaborative research, extension and outreach program supported by World Vision through the DFAT funded Australian NGO cooperation Program (ANCP) project is mentoring students and offering practical and experiential learning on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs). This collaboration enhances youth capacity development for students at ISTVS in areas of natural resource management and sustainable agricultural systems. This partnership has trained students and actively engages them in community extension and farmer outreach services. The outreach activities trained include plant propagation, good agronomic practices, agroforestry, and apiculture and irrigated horticulture production. The participants reported this as the first opportunity that has enabled them to learn and gain hands-on skills on extension methodologies and technology transfer.
