ISTVS Annual Agribusiness Prize giving ceremony for successful business ideas of ISTVS students
IGAD Sheikh Technical and Veterinary school held its Annual Prize Giving Day for Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness training for Cohort 4, on 9th February 2023 with the aim of enhancing and grow the livelihood of rural community, moving away from subsistence to a commercial orientation model.
The chief guest was the Principal ISTVS Dr. Fred Wesonga.
Cohort 4 had two (2) winners namely; UGBAD Garlic Farm group and Sheikh Dairy Goat group. Each group was awarded a cash prize of USD 1,000 to implement their various projects. All the participants were also awarded certificates of completion for the training.
Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness is a part-time course that is offered over the period of 12-weeks, enables the participant to develop quality business plans that identify their Unique Value Proposition, Market Sector, Finances and Operational Plans. The course is offered through a ‘blended’ (online and face to face) approach in partnership with universities and institutions in East Africa such as Makerere and Gulu Universities in Uganda.
The Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness training is a program under “The Agripreneurship Alliance” in partnership with the African Management Institute (AMI) and sponsored by The Swedish International Agriculture Network Initiative (SIANI) through the Expert Group program.
In his speech, the Principal Dr. Fred Wesonga thanked (Godfrey and Chris) the facilitators of the program in ISTVS for supporting and making the program a success. He also thanked the Agripreneurship Alliance for their continued support and equipping the youth across Eastern Africa with Agripreneural skills. Dr. Fred encouraged the trainees to make use of the skills acquired during the training to improve their wellbeing and the society at large.
