IGAD-STVS 2023 Graduation Bachelor of Science in Dryland Economics and Agroecosystem Management accredited by the University of Nairobi.

A total of 19 students graduated from the dryland agriculture program (accredited by the University of Nairobi) on the 22nd of September 2023. A total of 10 and 9 students pursued extension and economic specializations respectively.
The performance was outstanding with 4 students graduating with first-class honors, 10 with second-class upper-division honors, and 5 with second-class lower-division honors. The performance does demonstrate that academic excellence is achievable in the heart of pastoralist rural environment if the correct “ingredients” go into the delivery of the targeted programs that are pertinent to the development of the Arid and Semi-Arid lands. ISTVS has provided a platform in the region that has enabled the youth enrolled from across the region to attain their full academic potential and compete favorably with their peers in the rest of the IGAD region.
Without quality education communities in cross border areas will never be integrated into national economies and thus the feeling or perception of marginalization will persist building into the “need to migrate or be violent”.
We congratulate the fresh graduates! The sky is the limit as various job opportunities and further training are on offer.
The benefits of this can also be looked at in a wider context in terms of security and containment of illegal migration. If we can build on the progress made so far.
