A TWO DAYS TRAINING ON COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AT ISTVS
On 9th -10th December 2018, David Aronson a senior communications advisor working with ILRI set foot at ISTVS Campus located in Sheikh to carry out a training on communication and knowledge management to the teaching and non-teaching staff.
ISTVS is an agricultural and veterinary school, and reference center whose objectives include: to build resilient pastoralists and agro-pastoralist communities through training and skill development. This will expand the network of collaboration with relevant regional and international knowledge management. With these objectives as the epitome of the school, it was necessary to have the communication skills and Knowledge management training to enhance the staff with better communication skills and also come up with a strong communication strategy for the school.
A number of issues were discussed focusing on how to embrace communication skills in attracting both local and international stakeholders. Participants acquired appropriate skills on the use of social media platform such as Facebook, twitter, flicker and the school website to better publicize ISTVS.
“A better communications strategy of ISTVS will build its reputation, attract more students for enrolment, enhance research and capacity building,” said Mohamed Abdirahman (participant).
In a nutshell, the success of any institution depends on an effective communication strategy, therefore, members agreed that with the acquisition of these skills to spearhead this cause, ISTVS will reach greater heights, probably become a” Mini Harvard University” of Sheikh in Somaliland.
